School in September 1823 (Norlands)

We took our girlscouts on a trip to Norlands to check out the 1823 school. The girls learned a little about life in that time. How boys and girls went to school. What kind of manners children had back then. Some new words and their meanings, Like lad meaning boy, britches meaning pants, outhouse meaning outdoor bathroom just to name a few. Some of the other things they was taught was that only unmarried women could be teachers. That at lunch a young lad would go and get water. Students of all ages went in the same classroom. Boys on one side girls on the other. Each group of girls had an assignment and had to get up in front of the whole class and recite their assingment.
In this picture is Tristan, Liz , Teagon, and Becky reciting their assingment.
